Thursday June 30th, 2011.
On Thursday June 30th there will be a Host a Veteran Fishing Gala Dinner in support of the Canada Day Fishing Derby. The Gala will commence at 6:30pm, and will be held at The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 486. The Gala will feature both live and silent auctions. Friday July 1st, 2011.
The 1st Annual Canada Day HOST A VETERAN Fishing Derby will be conducted concurrently from three Lake Ontario ports - Bronte, Port Credit and Port Dalhousie, which are all prime salmon fishing locations. The derby will salute the service of all Canada's Veterans and raise funds for the Military Family Resource Centers (MFRC's).
Morning: Fishing Derby
The Derby will commence at 6am with a pre event briefing. The launch for all participating ports will be at 7am. Weigh-ins will conclude at 1pm. After all weigh-ins are complete participants are invited to disperse to their local legions for lunch. Those that are registered, Hosting a Veteran Fishing outside the scope of the derby, can moderate their hours for the species being pursued and liaise with their local RCL Branch for post derby activities.
Afternoon: Awards
At approximately 3:30pm all major awards will be addressed at Oakville's Canada Day Event, held at Bronte Heritage Waterfront Park. Awards will be presented on the main stage to educate the public about the event, and generate interest for next year's event.
Evening: "Heroes in Our Midst" Tailgate Party
The Derby will be followed by a tailgate party, which will be held at the Bronte Royal Canadian Legion, branch 486. Commencing at 5:30pm, all are welcome to join us at the legion for some food, fun and fireworks. The major awards won at the Derby will also be handed out.
** The Canada Day tailgate party is not limited to those who participated in the derby. Everyone is welcome at the Bronte Royal Canadian Legion, branch 486. There will be a nominal entrance fee, and food and beverages will be available to purchase.
